Urban Extension

In recent years, large scale urban development has taken the form of sustainable 'Urban Extensions'. It involves the planned peripheral expansion of a larger settlement on a site that is appropriate for new homes and community facilities which is in a location that has good access to road and service infrastructure, schools and other social facilities.

The practice has been at the forefront of this type of work having been the lead consultant for the expansion of Maldon, Bishop's Stortford and Great Dunmow in the UK as well as Portmarnock and Portlaoise in Ireland.

Projects

Residential Area, Portmarnock
Portmarnock is located in an attractive coastal position to the north of Dublin. Adjoining the site is the Portmarnock DART station with regular rail services to the centre of the city.

The Master Plan provides guidance for the design and layout of an integrated and sustainable new residential area that consolidates links between the existing community in Portmarnock and rapidly growing new neighbourhoods to the south and west. It will provide for approximately 1400 homes and new local shopping centre adjoining the railway station.
