An historic building is normally one which has architectural or historic interest or significance. Its importance may be local or national and may be a consequence of the building's age, built form or location. It may also result from its connection with a person or persons of note, or with local or national events.

If the buildings on a site are Listed, it is necessary to provide the local planning authority with sufficient information to enable an assessment to be made of the likely impact of the proposals on the building, its significant architectural features and its setting. There are also particular obligations of care on the part of an owner.

The practice is widely experienced in dealing with historic or, more particularly, Listed Buildings which are the subject of Government legislation for their protection and to policies contained in local planning policies.

Panfield Hall
•   Panfield Hall is a Grade I Listed Building dating from about 1500 and
    altered in the C16, C18 and C19.
•   Amongst many of the historically interesting features of the building,
    there is a visually prominent and highly decorative chimney stack
    situated in the south wall at the eastern end of the hall-range.
•   It has 3 octagonal shafts - 2 ornamental and one plain, in cut and
    shaped bricks
•   The brief from the client was to accurately restore the stacks.
•   The pictures show the stack following completion of the work.
•   The project was runner-up for the Dixon Smith Award from Braintree and
    Bocking Civic Society
